Japandi Sanctuary at Tampines
Tampines
About This Project
This Tampines home represents a thoughtful fusion of Japanese wabi-sabi philosophy and Scandinavian hygge comfort. The homeowners, a couple who had lived in Tokyo for several years, wanted to bring that sense of intentional simplicity into their new Singapore flat while maintaining the practicality needed for modern family life. The living space is anchored by a low-profile sofa in muted olive paired with a handcrafted solid ash coffee table. Shoji-inspired sliding panels separate the living room from the study nook, allowing natural light to filter through while providing privacy when needed. The material palette stays deliberately restrained: bleached oak, warm grey limewash walls, and touches of black iron in the lighting fixtures create visual harmony without monotony. In the bedroom, a tatami-inspired platform bed sits low to the ground, flanked by minimalist pendant lights that create a serene sleeping environment. Built-in storage behind the bed frame keeps linens and seasonal items accessible but hidden. The bathroom continues the zen aesthetic with large-format concrete-look tiles and a freestanding soaking tub positioned to catch morning light through frosted glass windows.
